The Adventure Begins
The first rays of morning sunlight slipped through the tall trees of Otterwood, painting golden patterns across the winding river. Birds sang from the branches, dragonflies danced above the water, and the whole woodland seemed to buzz with excitement. Today wasn't an ordinary day—it was the day of the Great River Race.
Finn and Milo had been waiting for it all year. Every spring, friendly animals from every corner of Otterwood gathered along the riverbank with boats they had built themselves. Some were long and sleek, some were wide and sturdy, and some looked so unusual that no one could guess whether they would float or sink.
"I can't believe we're finally old enough to race!" Milo said, practically bouncing with excitement.
Finn grinned as he looked at the small wooden boat resting beside their home. It wasn't the fastest boat on the river, but they had built every piece of it together. Every plank had been carefully sanded, every rope tied twice, and every tiny scratch told the story of long afternoons spent working side by side.
Just as they were about to carry it toward the starting line, they heard a loud crack.
The front of the boat slowly tilted downward.
One of the wooden supports had split clean in half.
