Chapter one

The Extraordinary Pea

Chapter illustration

Long ago, on the edge of the Dragon Lands, there stood a peaceful village surrounded by rolling green hills and endless golden fields. The villagers lived simple lives, growing crops, raising animals, and gathering each evening around warm fireplaces to share stories and songs.

Among them lived a kind farmer and his wife. They were known throughout the village for their generosity and hard work. Although they had everything they needed, there was one thing they wished for more than anything else—a child to share their home and their adventures.

One bright spring morning, the farmer was tending his vegetable garden when something unusual caught his attention. Between rows of ordinary pea plants, a single golden glow shimmered beneath the leaves. Curious, he knelt down and gently pushed the vines aside.

Nestled among the green pods was the most extraordinary pea he had ever seen.

It was perfectly round, smooth as polished gold, and seemed to shine with its own warm light.

The farmer carefully picked it up. To his surprise, the pea felt warm in his palm, as if a tiny sun were sleeping inside it.

"Well, I've never seen anything like this before," he murmured.

He hurried back to the cottage and showed it to his wife.

For a long moment, neither of them spoke. They simply stared at the glowing pea resting on the kitchen table.

"It looks magical," she finally whispered.

The farmer nodded.

"Perhaps it is."

Neither of them knew where the strange pea had come from, but something about it felt special. They placed it inside a small wooden box lined with soft cloth and set it beside the window where the morning sunlight could reach it.

As the day passed, the pea continued to glow softly. Sometimes the light grew brighter, then faded again, almost like a heartbeat.

That evening, dark clouds gathered beyond the distant mountains.

The villagers noticed them too.

"Storm coming," people said as they hurried indoors.

But no storm arrived.

Instead, just after midnight, a deep roar rolled across the sky.

The sound was so powerful that it rattled windows throughout the village.

The farmer woke instantly.

His wife sat upright in bed.

"Did you hear that?" she asked.

Before he could answer, another roar echoed through the darkness.

This one sounded closer.

The farmer rushed to the window.

For a brief moment, he thought he saw something enormous crossing in front of the moon—a creature with vast wings and three long necks.

Then it vanished into the clouds.

Back in the kitchen, the golden pea suddenly began to shine brighter than ever before...
